8 Games We’re Looking Forward to at E3 2016

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

E3 2016 is on the horizon and with it a slew of new games for the major platforms and publishers/developers doing their very best to sell you these games with screenshots, trailers, live action displays and of course, the infamous booth babes.

While we wait for the actual show to begin, here’s a small list of some of the games to look forward to at the expo.

Of course, this isn’t even close to all of the games you’ll hear about, and we’re sure there are a few that you’re looking forward to that aren’t on this list. Feel free to tell us what they are in the comments below!

Horizon Zero Dawn

Exclusive to the Playstation 4, Horizon Zero Dawn is being developed by the folks that made the Killzone franchise. From what I can gather of the screenshots, it looks like something between Arc: Combat Evolved and Crysis. I guess the Post-Apocalyptic games are still a favored genre.

Description: In a lush, vibrant, post-apocalyptic open world, colossal mechanized creatures roam a landscape that they have torn from the grip of mankind.

Human evolution has, over time, regressed to a tribal hunter-gatherer existence, surviving amongst towering forests, imposing mountain ranges and the atmospheric ruins of a bygone civilisation – while the savage machines have become all-powerful.

You are Aloy, a skilled hunter who relies on speed, cunning and agility to stay alive and protect her tribe against the strength, size and raw power of the machines. Against overwhelming odds, you must embark on a compelling, emotional journey to uncover the secrets of a forgotten civilisation, the ancient artifacts they left behind, and to learn more about the advanced technologies that will determine the fate of the planet – and of human life itself.

Mafia 3

Hopefully, it doesn’t suffer the same fate as the GodFather 3 and retains the same level of organized crime fun that the previous two gave you.

Description: After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. When his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge and redemption through the Mafioso responsible.

Dishonored 2

Dishonored was a really fun stealth/combat game that gave you special powers and a great story to unfold. Dishonored 2 looks like it’ll be just as much fun and simply amazing looking to watch.

Description: Dishonored 2 takes your protagonist — choose between Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin — to the coastal city of Karnaca where the choices you make will have significant impact on the world.

BattleField 1

The latest installment of the Battlefield franchise looks like exactly what you’d expect from a Battlefield game. There are lots of guns, lots of vehicles and lots of action. What’s different is this time it returns to its historical roots and takes you into the fighting style of World War 1.

Description: Battlefield 1 is an upcoming World War I first-person shooter video game developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. It is the fourteenth installment in the Battlefield franchise, the first main entry in the series since Battlefield 4 (2013), and the first World War I video game published by Electronic Arts since Wings of Glory in 1994.

Civilization VI

Civilization VI was announced rather unexpectedly one day in almost a “Oh hay guyz! Itz a new Civ game, lolz!” type of release from Firaxis. Usually, a game of this level is given all sorts of sneak peeks, “leaked” footage, screenshots, trailers and everything else a PR team can throw at a site like ours. But not this one! Everyone loves a good Civilization game, though. Hopefully Civilization VI continues to kill our ability to tell time properly.

Description: Civilization VI offers new ways to interact with your world, expand your empire across the map, advance your culture, and compete against history

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Combine Crysis and Splinter Cell, mix in a conspiracy theory storyline and you get a Deus Ex game. I’ve always enjoyed the Deus Ex games (since the first one on PC) and I’m looking forward to this one as well.

Description: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is an upcoming cyberpunk-themed action role-playing video game

Mass Effect Andromeda

Bioware is being a little hush-hush about Mass Effect Andromeda, as is expected. But, we do know it’s an entirely new adventure in the Mass Effect universe. What does this mean for us? Who knows. The trailer looked more like a FPS action game than what we expect from a Mass Effect title.

Description: While we aren

Warhammer 40k: Inquisitor – Martyr

Psh! It’s a Warhammer 40k game. Shut up and take my money!

Description Set in Warhammer universe, the Action-RPG Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is a persistent single-player sandbox adventure that thrust players into a grim and secret war among the stars as the agents of the ever-vigilant Inquisition.
