Today we look back at the best selling games to come from the last generation of consoles, the seventh generation. So look back and see just how many of them you’ve played and enjoyed. You’ll be surprised at just what games sold the most.
The Wii Fit Plus, for the Nintendo Wii, came out in 2009. This fitness video game was endorsed by the American Heart Association, along with two other games for the Wii. The fact that this is a fun and healthy game helped drive its sales up to over 21 million, pretty damned good for a game that focuses on health and not shooting people.
The Wii Fit, also known as the precursor to the Wii Fit Plus, was released in 2008. The [i]Wii Fit was another Wii game endorsed by the American Heart Association, proving that sometimes it’s fun to be healthy. The endorsement, as well as the fact that the Wii was the best selling console of the whole seventh generation, helped drive sales to almost 23 million copies.
Finally we get to a game that isn’t related to the Wii. Next on the list is Kinect Adventures which is on this list mainly because of the fact that it was included in with the purchase of an Xbox 360 with the Kinect. Those sold well, and by well I mean 24 million copies well. This game used full body motion, rather than two handheld controllers with the Wii, to take you through some seriously exciting scenarios.
The Wii Play benefited from the fact that it was a launch game for the console in Japan, Europe, and Australia. Which helped it rack up over 28 million copies sold. The Wii Play had nine minigames that ranged from billiards to table tennis. It may not have been bundled with the console but that didn’t hurt it’s sales, surprisingly.
Leave it to Mario to be on this list, that plumber knows how to captivate an audience. With New Super Mario Bros. Wii it really struck a chord. This installment in the popular Mario franchise has sold over 28 million copies. Don’t worry, this isn’t Mario’s only appearance in this list, he’s too powerful a force to be held back.
Wii Sports Resort really benefited from being bundled with the console. In 2009 it became the game to be bundled with the Wii, helping it to get over 32 million copies out to fans of the popular console. The resort aspect of this game takes you to an exotic locale to take part in the plethora of minigames.
Mario appears once again with the Mario Kart Wii, appropriately for the Wii console. This game was released in 2008 to mostly positive reviews, helping to drive its sales to 35.53 million copies. This release helped bring the popular franchise to the 21st century, giving the players the best looking and performing karts since the 64.
Wii Sports was the original game to be bundled with the Wii, making it the best selling console game of all time with 82.54 million copies. This now classic game put you in the shoes of your Mii as you navigated your way through bowling, tennis, boxing, and baseball, to name a few. With all of the minigames it helped keep the game fresh for several years after its release in 2006.
