Everyone loves the current generations of consoles. Many have had the Xbox 360 for years. And yet, today, I propose that the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo Entertainment System were the best consoles in the history of gaming. So buckle up, because this is going to be a bumpy ride.
Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985. Since then he’s been busy slaughtering turtles and doing mushrooms.
1991 saw Sega release the inaugural Sonic the Hedgehog to critical acclaim. Sonic’s speed made some levels take mere seconds, I know that there’s a joke in there somewhere.
Nintendo’s Duck Hunt came out alongside Super Mario Bros. and helped to solidify the NES as the console everyone wanted. It also made a generation of kids hate that damned laughing dog. His mockery made you feel like less of a person.
Jurassic Park was released in 1993 and was one of five video games released to tie in with the movie. In the Sega version you got the Jungle River attraction, pretty much as good a reason as any to get this on the Genesis over the other consoles.
Excitebike was the game that everyone wanted to play. Mainly because it was more fun to play than going outside and risking your life on an actual motorcycle for Excitebikement.
Ecco the Dolphin was about, you guessed it, a dolphin. You had the ability to ram your enemies and sing to other dolphins. Besides the fact that they glossed over the fact that dolphins are the worst people on Earth it was a very good game.
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! pits you against a myriad of opponents that culminated with you facing off against, naturally, Mike Tyson. I tried, but never got there when I was a kid so I had to take their word on the fact that Mike Tyson was indeed in the game. Maybe he wasn’t in the game. Maybe it was all a lie.
Who doesn’t love X-Men? Godless commies don’t. Since we’re all good people, we all love the series and part of that is because of the excellent games.
