Originally announced nine years ago, Final Fantasy XV appears to be on the way, and a downloadable demo will be available in 2015.
A new Final Fantasy XV trailer debuted for Tokyo Game Show 2014, and Square Enix announced a demo will be available for download in 2015.
The demo is titled “Episode Duscae.” While it will focus on earlier parts of the game, some elements will be altered to fit the demo. At the least, it will allow players to see the beginning area of the game.
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD players can receive a voucher with the game to access the Final Fantasy XV demo for free. A Square Enix representative could not confirm to Game Informer whether the demo will be available the same day as Type-0 HD, but it will be available on PS4 and Xbox One. Type-0 HD will be released on March 17 in North America, March 19 in Japan, and March 20 in Europe. Square Enix community manager Daniel Seto announced the demo will be available in Europe on PS4 on March 20, the same day as Type-0 launches in the region.
In addition, Tetsuya Nomura has stepped down from the role of director for Final Fantasy XV so that he can focus on Kingdom Hearts III, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda said in a prepared statement. Hajime Tabata, who directed Type-0 and Crisis Core, is the new director for Final Fantasy XV.
A two-minute trailer shows off some surprisingly modern-looking areas, as well as a car that the characters use to travel. In a moment of what seems like self-awareness, protagonist Noctis ends the trailer with the following words: “It’s been a long time coming. Almost there.”
