New Android Ads Pop Up Ahead of Google’s Rumored Nexus 6 Launch

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Three new ads were leaked ahead of Google unveiling the Nexus 6 phone, Nexus 9 tablet.

More than one report points to Google unveiling the Nexus 6 phone and Nexus 9 tablet later this month (perhaps even this week), but one thing we know for sure is that Android is about to get a substantial shot in the arm from marketing.

Droid Life has three new, leaked Android commercials up on YouTube, one of which is embedded to the right (the other two are here, and here). The general theme? “Be together, not the same,” referencing the selection of Android devices available from HTC, LG, Samsung, and others.

We already have some details on Android L, the next mobile OS from Google, but we haven’t seen anything definitive on the next wave of Nexus hardware, which Android L will call home first. That also seemingly changed today, as notable mobile sleuth Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted what he says is the Motorola-built Nexus 6. The image shows a phone running Android L, a USB on the bottom edge, power and volume controls on the right edge, and what could be a dual speaker configuration (the strips above and below what’s reported to be a 5.92-inch display).

The image definitely maintains the minimalist design philosophy that Nexus devices usually embody, and no specs accompany the picture. Educated speculation points to a 1440p display, 3 GB of RAM, a generous battery, and high-clock quad-core Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm.

The Wall Street Journal says both the Nexus 6 and HTC-built Nexus 9 will launch in October, with the latter having guts based on an Nvidia Tegra K1 chip.

Two new devices, an OS refresh, and some shiny new ads to push the trend? Not a bad month for the Android contingent. But Apple devotees need not be sad, as new iPad hardware is also expected to surface in the coming days.
