First look sells Pixar legacy, introduces new characters
Disney and Pixar have released the first trailer for their big animated feature for next summer, Inside Out. The teaser takes fans back through a montage of memorably emotional moments from the animation powerhouse’s legendary history, before segueing into a brief intro for the emotion-based heroes of the new film.
Inside Out is the third feature for Up director Pete Docter. It takes place primarily within the mind of a young girl named Riley, with the main characters being personifications of Riley’s emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling).
In the film’s story, Joy finds her previously life-long position as team leader (by way of being Riley’s most-prominent emotion) being challenged by Sadness – who has suddenly become assertive as Riley approaches her teens. The two wind up trapped in the subconscious far from their command center, and must work together to get back before having only Anger, Fear and Disgust in charge transforms Riley into another permanently-moody preteen.
Inside Out is due for release on June 19, 2015
