Now I ain’t sayin’ he a pirate …
Tip: If you’re a multi-millionaire musician about to tweet a picture of your monitor to 19.8 million people, make sure you don’t have a popular torrent site in your active tabs. The image, posted on Kanye West’s twitter account this morning, shows the YouTube page for Sufjan Stevens’ Death With Dignity (also kind of a gaffe given that West has just launched his own music streaming service), but look a little closer and you’ll see also see a few open tabs. One is the page for Serum, a $189 synthesizer made by Xfer Records for Mac and Windows. Another is a Pirate Bay search results page beginning with “Xfe…”
Oh dear.
Now before the lawyers begin abseiling through The Escapist’s windows, I should make it clear that despite this picture being posted on West’s personal twitter account, that isn’t necessarily a picture of his Mac. And even if it is, just because he’s browsing the Pirate Bay doesn’t mean he’s engaging in a bit of the old yo ho ho. That being said, it certainly looks that way, as music producer, Deadmau5, was quick to point out.
What the fuck @kanyewest … Can't afford serum? Dick. pic.twitter.com/8B2aiyORZs— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) March 2, 2016
This comes just a few weeks after West apparently threatened legal action against The Pirate Bay for offering torrents of his latest album.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you scrub your browser meticulously before streaming or taking screenshots of anything.
