Resident Evil 7 launched earlier this week, and has already shipped 2.5 million copies.
On Tuesday, Capcom launched Resident Evil 7 to critical acclaim. Our own Liz Finnegan said that the game is, “everything the series should have been up to this point.” It seems that the game’s critical success is translating to commercial success as well, as Capcom has now announced that it has already shipped 2.5 million copies of Resident Evil 7 to retail.
That 2.5 million brings the total sales numbers for the Resident Evil series to a whopping 75 million. Capcom called the numbers for the newest Resident Evil “a solid start,” but it’s worth noting two things. First, Capcom had previously said that it hoped to sell 4 million copies by the end of March, and second, that the 2.5 million number is copies shipped to retail. We’ll have to wait and see what the actual sales to consumers look like.
