Mass Effect Andromeda will take advantage of the PS4 Pro to run at 1800p with checkerboard rendering.
In the latest saga of the Resolution Wars, general manager for BioWare Aaryn Flynn has stated on NeoGAF that the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda will run at 1080p on PS4, and just 900p on Xbox One. He also confirmed that the game would be taking advantage of the PS4 Pro to run at 1800p – which is a bit shy of the native 2160p which is the standard for 4K gaming. Both console versions of the game will run at 30fps.
“Last I checked, we were like other Frostbite games on PS4 and XBox One – 1080p and 900p respectively. All are at 30 fps. PC has uncapped framerate. I think we’ve even gotten over the 30 fps cap in cutscenes, but I’ll double-check in the next couple of weeks,” wrote Flynn in the post.
The good news takeaway from this is that the PC version’s framerate is uncapped. I know that should pretty much be a no-brainier these days but thanks to games like Mafia 3 it’s now a question that we have to ask. Flynn did also neglect to comment on the game’s PS4 Pro framerate. We are assuming the lower resolution means they are aiming for a 60fps rate.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version of the game will run at 0p/0fps because it doesn’t exist.
