Remedy Entertainment has announced Alan Wake Remastered, a revamped version of its suspenseful action adventure title, coming to PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S this fall. Remedy creative director Sam Lake uniquely revealed it via an open letter to The Sudden Stop, a fan website that has been covering the studio’s projects for nearly a decade.
Alan Wake Remastered will offer 4K visuals and new commentary from Lake with players able to access the original game and its two expansions, The Signal and The Writer. The remaster also marks the first time the classic 2010 title will be available to play on PlayStation consoles. Meanwhile, Epic Games Store PC exclusivity should come as no surprise following the publishing deal between Epic and Remedy that was revealed in early 2020. With launch right around the corner, expect to see and hear more about the remaster in the next few months.
Rumors surrounding the possibility of Alan Wake Remastered can be traced back to 2019, shortly after the franchise rights were returned to Remedy. Last year, we saw the studio’s sci-fi outing, Control, cross over with Alan Wake in its AWE expansion. Aside from the DLC bringing more horror to the third-person shooter, this marked our first taste of the Remedy Connected Universe, which aims to tie together the game developer’s past and future.
Alan Wake Remastered reiterates that the series remains a key property for the studio, but Remedy hasn’t exactly been shy about discussing future plans. The developer announced in June that the Control franchise will grow with a multiplayer spinoff and separate “bigger-budget” entry. So, with Alan Wake Remastered coming later this year, campaigns for the Crossfire series in development, and the other mystery titles promised, Remedy has positioned itself as one of the busiest game developers in the business.
