Dragon Ball: The Breakers Gameplay Breakdown & Closed Beta Signup Revealed

Bandai Namco and Dimps’ asymmetrical multiplayer survival game, Dragon Ball: The Breakers, has received an 11-minute gameplay breakdown video that also includes date and registration signup information for its closed beta test. It’s a dense video, serving as an overview for mechanics and gameplay systems that were first teased in the announcement video last week. Where that trailer gave only a few glimpses of gameplay, however, this video shows nearly everything you can expect from Dragon Ball: The Breakers.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a 7v1 multiplayer game where seven players, the Survivors, group up to escape from an all-powerful Raider. The Raider player can choose from Cell, Buu, or Frieza, with Survivors picking from a roster of less powerful characters like Bulma and Oolong. Survivors will use a Super Time Machine to escape, but to power it up, Survivors must collect a set of hidden Power Keys to make a Startup System appear. Then they must defend the Startup System until the Super Time Machine is ready. Raiders can, of course, destroy the Startup System. In this case, Survivors get one last chance to escape in an Emergency Time Machine.

Meanwhile, playing as a Raider will let players live out their Dragon Ball fantasies as a quick, flying force of destruction. Cell, for example, begins the game as a larva but can evolve into new forms by absorbing NPCs and Survivors. Each Raider in Dragon Ball: The Breakers has different active and passive skills, and each time they evolve, they can destroy an entire section of the map, upping the intensity as players scramble for safety.

Raiders are immensely powerful, but Survivors can utilize teamwork, items, and appearance-altering abilities to regain the upper hand. In addition to their own active and passive skills – such as the ability to change into random objects – Survivors can activate Dragon Change, allowing them to temporarily fight back as characters like Vegeta, Goku, and Piccolo. Survivors can also cooperate to find all seven Dragon Balls to have Shenron grant a wish, but this same opportunity is open to Raiders. So far, Dragon Ball: The Breakers seems to find a balance between the Survivors and Raiders – if you play strategically, of course.

As for closed beta signup, players can head to the Dragon Ball: The Breakers website to register for the closed beta test. Those chosen to participate in the closed beta will have the opportunity to play across four separate sessions, which you can see below. Take note, though, that you’ll only be able to participate in the beta by playing through Steam:

  • Session 1 – Friday, December 3, at 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. PT
  • Session 2 – Saturday, December 4, at 4 a.m. – 8 a.m. PT
  • Session 3 – Saturday, December 4, at 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. PT
  • Session 4 – Saturday, December 4, at 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. PT

Dragon Ball: The Breakers launches in 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox consoles.
