You could argue that The Book of Boba Fett and most of season 2 of The Mandalorian are exercises in fan service, but then how would you describe the fan service explosion that is Obi-Wan Kenobi? Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are coming back to throw down one more time as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader respectively, reprising their Star Wars prequel trilogy characters, and it’s the single most anticipated piece of Star Wars content. The only issue is that nobody knows when it will arrive. However, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently targeting a May 2022 premiere date on Disney+.
While THR notes that “it’s not official until it’s official,” this is still the best indication that the Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere date is not stuck in a galaxy far, far away. And of course, May would be a fitting time for the series to arrive, since May 4 is Star Wars Day.
Meanwhile, there is a tremendous amount of Star Wars content in development, in TV, film, and video games. There are too many upcoming TV shows to easily list, but Ahsoka is the big one. Rogue Squadron is the next film, if Patty Jenkins can find time to make it. And Respawn Entertainment is developing three separate Star Wars games, Quantic Dream is developing the adventure Star Wars Eclipse, Aspyr is developing the RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, and Zynga has free-to-play arena shooter Star Wars: Hunters coming.
So, even if Obi-Wan Kenobi were to wildly miss this proposed May premiere date, there would be a lot of other content on the horizon.
