Publisher Bandai Namco has announced that sales of Elden Ring from FromSoftware have reached 12 million copies worldwide as of March 14, 2022, and 1 million of those copies were sold in Japan. That’s incredibly impressive considering the game launched less than a month ago on February 25. Additionally, Bandai Namco president and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa expressed that they intend to expand the Elden Ring brand “beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life.”
The outstanding sales of Elden Ring likely owe to a combination of strong word of mouth and extremely positive reviews from critics. The game is also available on numerous platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. Regardless, Elden Ring director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki offered appreciation for the reception. Among other things, he said the following: “It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring. I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team.”
Meanwhile, expanding the Elden Ring “brand” beyond games could mean any number of things. Dark Souls and Bloodborne already received comic books, so it’s not a stretch to think Elden Ring could get one too. Perhaps a TV show or movie could arrive somewhere down the line, especially now that streamers like Netflix are rabid to adapt every game franchise on Earth.
Let us know if you are part of those 12 million Elden Ring sales, as well as what you would like to see from an expansion of the brand.
