Sonic the Hedgehog has seen a bit of a resurgence these days. He has another hit film, and the upcoming Sonic Frontiers looks promising. What has been lost in the conversation, though, is Sonic Origins. Announced almost one year ago, the compilation brings together Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3, along with Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD. There has been almost no news on the game since the initial reveal. However, Sonic Origins was recently rated in South Korea. In addition, the title had some promotional art leaked. A Sonic Origins release date announcement could be right around the corner.
The PC version of Sonic Origins was rated “All Ages” in Korea. Here is the promo art, as spotted on PlayStation Network:

It sure looks official to me! It’s nice to see Amy represented even though she only appears in one game.
With these two pieces of information, it looks highly likely Sonic Origins will receive a 2022 release date, along with the aforementioned Sonic Frontiers. The collection itself is quite interesting, as it is being ported using the Retro Engine, which was used on mobile ports of some Sonic games. This means the games will not feature emulation and will run natively. Expect tweaks like being able to play the adventures in 16:9 widescreen.
