Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II release date October 28, 2022 Activision Infinity Ward cargo ship barge drone video key art reveal

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Release Date Set for October

Publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward have used an elaborate publicity stunt to announce the release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be October 28, 2022. This game is the sequel to the 2019 reboot, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and it is not a remake of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Clearly, this series uses simple and useful naming conventions.

Activision revealed the key art and release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in a video that involves plastering the art on a cargo ship and sending out a drone to film it. Here is an explanation of how the video was made:

Over the course of 24 hours, a team maneuvered a massive cargo ship containing a 90,000 square foot Modern Warfare II wrap prominently displaying the popular and fan-favorite Call of Duty video game character Simon ā€œGhostā€ Riley. Once the ship docked on the port of Long Beach, a giant puzzle was revealed, as the port contained another MW2 image that aligned with the cargo shipā€™s wrap.

As the docking took place, drone footage captured the shipā€™s movement while also revealing a first look at the gameā€™s squad, calledĀ ā€œTask Force 141,ā€ featuring a global cast of characters.

Does this extravagant and somewhat arbitrary reveal make you any more excited to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II this October? The game does not have formally announced platforms yet, though a launch on PlayStation seems likely despite Activision Blizzard’s pending acquisition by Microsoft.
