Resident Evil 4 Remake Reveals New Gameplay and Details

Game director Yasuhiro Anpo and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi appeared at the Capcom Showcase today to share more details and gameplay for the Resident Evil 4 remake. They said they are “carefully preserving what makes the original title special while updating it with modern flourishes for everyone to enjoy” when it launches on March 24, 2023.

They also provided a refresher for those who could use it: Resident Evil 4 is set six years after the two previous games, after Leon S. Kennedy survived the events of Raccoon City and made the (somewhat odd) leap to becoming a federal agent working directly for the U.S. president. Leon is dispatched to a European city where the people have been infected with a plague, making them into the dangerous and terrifying “ganados.”

In order to capture the “terror of people controlled by madness,” Capcom has completely redesigned the ganados’ behavior. Additionally, the remake is aiming to create a stronger sensation of loneliness and fear of the unknown than the original game did. The developers assured there will still be plenty of action though.

You can check out the new Resident Evil 4 remake gameplay below. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC via Steam next March.
