Ubisoft Gives Up and Announces That Assassin’s Creed Mirage Exists

Ubisoft has officially announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage exists, it is the next game in the franchise, and you will hear more about it on September 10 at the scheduled Ubisoft Forward showcase. The announcement has an air of resignation to it though, as it comes in the wake of several reports, rumors, and even an accidental leak this morning from Ubisoft itself. Acknowledging the existence of the game is really all Ubisoft could do at this point if it didn’t want to look foolish.

The most recent reports indicate that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will launch in spring 2023, takes place in Baghdad (potentially between 860 and 870 CE), and will take a “back to basics” approach to gameplay. If that last part is accurate, it sounds like the RPG aspects will be going away in order to make room for an experience that, against all odds, focuses on assassins doing assassin things, perhaps even involving a creed. It has been a long time coming.

Elsewhere in the world of Ubisoft, strategy game Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope launches this October for Nintendo Switch, and pirate adventure Skull and Bones will finally see the light of day this November. There’s a good chance you’ll see both of those alongside Assassin’s Creed Mirage at the Ubisoft Forward showcase next month — unless Sparks of Hope is purposely saved for a long-anticipated September Nintendo Direct instead.
