CD Projekt Red new games The Witcher Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR group update Phantom Liberty Polaris Sirius Canis Majoris Orion Hadar sequel new IP

CD Projekt Red Announces New IP & Several New Witcher, Cyberpunk Games

CD Projekt Red has been quite busy. The company already revealed a DLC expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, which is coming sometime in 2023. Now, CD Projekt Red has announced a bunch of upcoming games during its Group Strategy Update, including a sequel to The Witcher 3, a new trilogy in the Witcher universe, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a new IP codenamed Hadar, and more.

There is a lot of information contained within the update. The first three releases within the CDPR pipeline are all video games based on The Witcher franchise. There is a game from The Molasses Flood (which CDPR purchased last year) codenamed Project Sirius, which is aimed at a broader audience and will contain both single-player and multiplayer. There is also Project Polaris, a new trilogy in The Witcher series that is intended to be delivered entirely within a six-year period. Finally, there is Project Canis Majoris. This is another The Witcher game made by an external studio full of developers who have worked on the series and is “built on the legacy” of The Witcher 3. This project will use Unreal Engine 5.

Jumping to the world of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red revealed Project Orion, which will be a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The game is not in active development yet, and it is a separate project from the aforementioned Phantom Liberty. And last but not least is the new IP codenamed Hadar. There’s not much to note on that front besides the fact that it is very early in production, being in the “conceptual stage” and worked on by a “small strike team.” It has been in “IP incubation” since late 2021.

Beyond everything mentioned above about new Witcher and Cyberpunk games and Hadar, CD Projekt Red is also interested in wanting to include multiplayer in more of its future projects. The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 is still planned for this year as well. This is great transparency from the developers, though I worry about the culture of crunch still being an issue.
