Asobo Studio has reportedly started working on A Plague Tale 2. According to French website XboxSquad, the sequel to this year’s A Plague Tale: Innocence will be officially revealed in 2020. The site also claims that Asobo hopes to release the game in 2022 for next-generation platforms.

In a statement to Eurogamer, publisher Focus Home Interactive did not deny rumors of A Plague Tale 2: “Of course, we announced last year we are partnering with Asobo for a future project but never confirmed if it was a sequel to A Plague Tale or not – and will give more details on that title when the right time comes.”

Focus Home also took the time to say that it is “very proud of the critical and public reception of A Plague Tale: Innocence.” As a result, the publisher says it is primarily focused on promoting the first title for now.

A Plague Tale: Innocence was recently nominated for Best Narrative at this year’s Game Awards. Considering the game sold well in the publisher’s eyes, it should be no surprise if a sequel is already in the cards.

The Escapist’s Elijah Beahm examined and criticized the game’s narrative in September, saying, “I sincerely hope that if a sequel does come to be that it won’t be as bloated as A Plague Tale: Innocence.”
