The method to extract Aspects has changed in Diablo 4, and players returning near Season 6 may be confused. This guide will explain how you can complete the extractions and where to see your collection of power within Sanctuary.
Diablo 4: How to Extract Aspects
Salvage Legendary items at any Blacksmith to automatically extract Aspects for the Codex of Power. When you find an item with an Aspect that you haven’t learned yet, there will be a crossed-weapons logo stamped on. So, if you see the logo in your inventory, make sure to save those items. Even if you’ve already used them, they can be brought to a Blacksmith and salvaged.
- Bring a Legendary Item to a Blacksmith.
- Scroll to the Salvage option.
- Salvage the item with the Aspect you want to extract.
- The Aspect automatically gets added to the Codex of Power.
Once you salvage a Legendary item with an undiscovered Aspect, you can find it in the Codex of Power. After the Season 4 update, all Aspects in the game were placed in the Codex. Whether you learn them in a dungeon or from the Blacksmith, they can all be accessed in the same place. And you still need to search for the top-tier version of each Aspect in the game for the best results. Although you might have an Aspect unlocked, that doesn’t mean it’s the best version. Greater Affixes will still be your best rolls.
As you find more items, look for the crossed swords icon at the top right of the image. This always means you can extract a stronger version of the Aspect than you currently have in the Codex.

In the past, the Occultist was the vendor that could extract Aspects in Diablo 4. Now, the Occultist helps with changing those alone. If you want to change an Aspect on your existing gear, open the Imprinting tab at this vendor and select the option you want from the Codex of Power. Depending on your unlocks, there will be a percentage range. With any luck, you can hit the maximum power for some high-level stats.
The Occultist does still help with enchanting your equipment. So along with Aspect changes, this vendor can swap unwanted Affixes as well. Luckily the Blacksmith and Occultist vendors are located closer together in most towns.
How to Equip Aspects in Diablo 4
Head to the Occultist and place your gear in the Imprinting tab to add a new Aspect. This will cost you plenty of gold along with some materials like Veiled Crystals. As long as you have an Aspect unlocked in the Codex of Power, you can place it on your gear, but not all equipment is equal. Some Aspects can only be placed on weapons while others are reserved for armor.
- Head to any Occultis vendor.
- Select an item for the Imprinting Tab.
- Choose an Aspect from the Codex of Power in Diablo 4.
If you can’t find one from a dungeon, then you need to find it as a lucky drop. I recommend using the Purveyor of Curiosities to get random Legendary rolls. Then you can take the Aspect you need and extract it at the Blacksmith.
How to Get Better Aspects in Diablo 4
Complete harder content within The Pit or Infernal Hordes for the best chance at high Aspect rolls. Any time you find an item that has an upgraded version of an Aspect, you will see two crossed swords. Unless you need the item for use on your build, I recommend always salvaging this for proper extraction. Otherwise, you’re wasting a good roll.
Most of the upgrades come down to sheer luck or trading with other players. You can’t always guarantee that the best roll is going to appear on an item that you need for a build such as the Lightning Spear Sorcerer. So keep climbing through harder content to get all the best rolls.
That’s all there is to the extraction mechanic now. Keep grinding for Legendary items and destroy them at your favorite Blacksmith.
Diablo 4 is available now on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
