Wales Interactive’s latest horror title, Maid of Sker, will celebrate the Welsh studio’s home country and the spookyĀ folkloreĀ that has impacted its culture.
The first-person survival horror game will release first on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in June, then on Nintendo Switch in October. It will feature unspecified performance enhancements on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X and will run at a 4K resolution uncapped on PC.
Players will get more than they asked for when they stay at Hotel Sker. Set in 1898, players will have to use weaponless survival tactics if they wish to exit the dangerous hotel alive. Maid of Sker isĀ all inspired by the Welsh folk story of Elisabeth Williams, a Welsh woman that died of heartbreak after being locked away in a room by her father.
“Weāre so excited to be announcingĀ Maid of Sker,” Managing Director David Banner said. “For us at Wales InteractiveĀ Maid of SkerĀ is a fantastic chance to share some Welsh heritage with the rest of the gaming world and frighten them all at the same time!”
Maid of Sker takes advantage of a 3D sound-based artificial intelligence system to deliver chilling scares. The story, which will focus on a supernatural mystery at the hotel, is crafted by writers that worked on horror titlesĀ Don’t Knock Twice andĀ SOMA. Bringing home the authentic and spooky atmosphere will be an array of Welsh hymns, being “Calon LĆ¢n (A Pure Heart),” “Suo-GĆ¢n (Welsh Lullaby),” and “Ar Hyd Y Nos,” all performed by Tia Kalmaru.
