Dying Light Getting DLC Based on Unreleased Game, Hellraid

The original Dying Light is getting some interesting paid DLC called Hellraid more than five years after the game’s launch. Techland took to the official Dying Light Twitter account to debut an ominous teaser video that features a demonic arcade cabinet and plans to launch the DLC for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this summer.

Hellraid has since been given a Steam page, offering up more clues on what Techland has planned for the surprise DLC. Most interestingly, the content description says the add-on is a new game mode “based on Techland’s unreleased first-person fantasy slasher” of the same name. This taste of the studio’s behind-closed-doors ambitions will offer a dungeon to explore, new weapons, and hellish enemies to encounter. You may never get a chance to play a final version of that old game, but you can at least watch a grim gameplay trailer released back in 2013 below. The Hellraid DLC can be played alone or with friends in co-op.

Dying Light was released in 2015 to mostly positive reviews and strong sales, but the longevity of its support since launch has been remarkable. Hellraid is only the latest addition to the game, with Techland having released the game’s meaty The Following story expansion in 2016 and its battle royale game mode, Bad Blood, in late 2018. As demonstrated by Hellraid’s existence, Dying Light still pulls in solid player numbers to this day.

Techland’s decision to bring more content to the game remains surprising considering the studio is still hard at work on Dying Light 2, which saw an indefinite delay in January. The parkour sequel was first set to see release in spring of this year.
