Finn, Rey, and Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

X-Men Producer Working on Star Wars Episodes 10-12

Star Wars has been focusing on its TV division for several years now, leaving the movie side in a bit of flux. However, irons are in the fire, with X-Men producer Simon Kinberg signing on to develop Star Wars Episodes 10-12 for Lucasfilm.

The news comes via Deadline, which reveals that Kinberg is writing and producing the films, with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy also serving as a producer. Kinberg, of course, is no stranger to massive franchises, having written and produced a number of Fox’s X-Men films. He even stepped into the director’s chair for Dark Phoenix, which acted as a sort of swan song for the franchise before Deadpool & Wolverine.

Kinberg, who wrote on Star Wars Rebels and acted as a consultant on The Force Awakens, is joining an interesting lineup of filmmakers who are working on projects set in a galaxy far, far away. His X-Men collaborator James Mangold is currently making a movie about the origins of the Jedi, while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is bringing Daisey Ridley’s Rey back to the franchise in a solo film. The next Star Wars film set to release, though, is Mandalorian & Grogu, which will continue to expand Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s story that started on the small screen.

Details about this new trilogy are a bit scattered at the moment. However, seemingly all of the reports confirm that it will not be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, focusing on a new set of characters and kicking off a new era for the franchise. Let’s just hope this set of films gets farther along than Rian Johnson’s, which disappeared following the controversial reactions to The Last Jedi in 2017.

Simon Kingber’s Star Wars films currently do not have release dates.
