Röki is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Polygon Treehouse and published by United Label. You play as Tove, a young girl who is adept at collecting loot and is even better at befriending strange creatures. When your brother Lars gets taken by a mysterious, grinning creature named Röki, you take it upon yourself to find Lars even when the odds are stacked against you.

From chilly mountain tops and snow-covered forests to murky underground hideouts and forgotten crypts, Röki will take you through a variety of fantastical environments inspired by Scandinavian folklore. The game’s charming art style can make even the dreariest cavern look like an inviting refuge. You’ll do a lot of backtracking to revisit acquaintances and test out new objects you’ve collected. Luckily, the game provides a fast-travel system using a network of trees that allows you to easily teleport between each major area.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed watching and experiencing Scandinavian folk tales come to life. Beyond the game’s lovely aesthetic lies a dark, unsettling narrative about love, loss, and betrayal. Come for the cute and inviting graphics and stay for a touching tale that explores themes of family, friendship, and loyalty. Röki is available now on PC and will arrive on Nintendo Switch at a later date.
