The Book of Boba Fett Disney+ Series to Premiere in December 2021

Rack up another Star Wars show for Disney+. Despite having just announced a deluge of content only a week ago, Disney had another surprise up its sleeve today, announcing that Boba Fett will receive his own spin-off series on Disney+ after appearing in season 2 of The Mandalorian. The series had been rumored but was left out of Disney’s investor call.

Spoilers for the end of The Mandalorian season 2 are ahead.

However, a teaser at the end of the season finale of The Mandalorian confirmed that this new series will be coming in December 2021. Boba Fett blasted back into the hearts of Star Wars fans on this season of The Mandalorian in an episode where we all finally got to see the bounty hunter kick some ass instead of “dying” like a fool. The new show, as Deadline reports, will be called The Book of Boba Fett and clearly focus on Boba Fett himself, who will once again be played by Temuera Morrison. In the post-credits clip forĀ The Mandalorian, he is seen entering Jaba the Hutt’s palace to take the throne with the help of Fennec (Ming-Na Wen). There’s no word on if Wen will return for the series, but it seems likely.

It’s pretty clear that Disney left this out of its announcements the week prior so it could drop the surprise at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian. The show has been notorious for keeping its secrets close to its chest, so much so that Disney was caught flat-footed with Baby Yoda merchandise during the first season because it didn’t want to risk a leak.

The Book of Boba Fett is just one of 10 new Star Wars shows landing on the streamer in the coming years. Disney has also announced that Rangers of the New RepublicĀ andĀ AhsokaĀ will be spinning out of The Mandalorian. That’s along with the upcomingĀ Clone Wars spin-offĀ The Bad Batch, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and Andor. It’s enough to make you think we might be getting a bit too muchĀ Star Wars coming down the line.
