Marvel Studios today announced a new documentary series that will take deep dives into the making of its films and television shows, kicking off with the wonderfully weird WandaVision. The new series, called Assembled in a nod to the classic Captain America line, will focus on a new Phase 4 Marvel film or TV show each episode. It will also feature an odd release schedule, with each episode premiering after a film hits theaters or a TV show has concluded. That means that the first episode will land March 12 when WandaVision concludes its run.
Just how long Assembled will go on for isn’t clear, but Disney has also confirmed episodes that cover The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and Black Widow. Each episode will feature interviews with the stars and creators of the series, giving fans a bit more insight into how they were made. Of course, the Marvel hype machine means that those who pay attention to MCU news probably will already know most of the details revealed, but for casual fans, this could be a very interesting deep dive into the shows.
The first episode, Assembled: The Making of Wandavision, will land on March 12, soon after the finale of the show it is about. It will feature interviews with Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Teyonah Parris, Randall Park, Kat Dennings, and Kathryn Hahn alongside the creative team. Viewers will see how the show drew inspiration from classic sitcoms and even went as far as recreating the same techniques each era’s sitcom used for shooting, including filming in front of a live studio audience.
Disney+ has already delivered something along these lines with its docuseries Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. That multi-part series was an incredibly well-made documentary about the making of The Mandalorian that offered excellent insight and discussions on the making of the show, pulling off something far more in-depth than the traditional making-of documentaries found on Blu-ray releases. Whether or not Assembled will have the same production values is yet to be seen, but getting a closer look into the world of the MCU should be fun.
