Things on season 3 of Doom Patrol are set to get a little more timey-wimey. Michelle Gomez, who played one of the incarnations of the Master on Doctor Who, has been cast as Madame Rouge, a new recurring villain in the series. The character is closely tied to the Chief (Timothy Dalton) and is said to show up at Doom Manor with an evil plot, even though she can’t quite seem to remember what the plot was or why she was doing it. She should fit right in with the surreal, weird world ofĀ Doom Patrol.
This now makes two Time Lords on the series as Dalton also played one years ago, but Gomez has been racking up successful turns since her time traveling in space. The actress also appeared in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Flight Attendant. In the third season of Doom Patrol, she’ll be joining series regulars Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, and Joivan Wade. It sounds like she will be playing the chief antagonist this season, replacing the Candlemaker, though the character of Madame Rouge often struggles between her good and evil sides in the comics.
Madame Rouge was introduced inĀ Doom Patrol #86 (1964) and has come into conflict with the team many times since then. She was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil and is a master of disguise who is later given the ability to stretch her body and features into different forms. The character has a split personality that functioned as a kind of Jekyll and Hyde aspect with one side being good and the other evil. It’s not clear if Michelle Gomez’s character will have her stretchy superpowers, but given the amnesia factor it sounds like her split personalities will play a role.
Doom Patrol had its first season air solely on DC Universe and then aired its second season there and on HBO Max, but WarnerMedia has now moved all its DC Universe shows, includingĀ Doom Patrol, over to HBO Max. There’s no release date forĀ Doom Patrol season 3 set yet.
