News You Might’ve Missed on 4/13/21: Indie World Showcase Incoming, a New Switch Lite, & More

Today was packed with news, so let’s dive right in. Nintendo had a busy day, as it announced a new “blue” Nintendo Switch Lite system, and it will debut the next Indie World Showcase tomorrow. In addition, Sony will roll out the first major PlayStation 5 update tomorrow, Call of the Sea is coming to PlayStation, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on April 13, 2021.

Nintendo Announced a New “Fresh” Blue Switch Lite System

While Nintendo has yet to acknowledge the myriad of rumors about the supposed “Switch Pro,” (or whatever it will be called) it did announce a new Nintendo Switch Lite system today. It’s supposed to be blue, but many have debated whether it’s actually blue or purple. You can be the judge of that. Either way, it resembles the color of the original GameCube system, which is a blast from the past for a lot of us. The system will be available on May 21, 2021 in North America for $199.99, coinciding with the release of Miitopia.

The First Major PS5 Update Will Go Live Tomorrow

Sony will be rolling out the first major PlayStation 5 update tomorrow, April 14, which will come with a handful of nifty features. Most notably, it will finally allow players to store PS5 games on external USB drives, freeing up precious hard drive space on the console. In addition, the update will include cross-generational share play across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, along with game update pre-downloads and other enhanced control and personalization options. Call of the Sea Will Launch for PlayStation Next Month

Call of the Sea, an adventure game that was previously exclusive to Xbox platforms, will finally be coming to PlayStation next month. The exact release date is yet to be revealed, but its developer made the announcement that it will be launching for PS4 and PS5 this May. Call of the Sea is a first-person game set in the 1930s with an emphasis on exploration and narrative. It launched for Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S last year and received positive reviews.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy Is Coming to Fortnite This Week

Fortnite‘s latest character is none other than Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy will be added on April 15 and will be available from the Item Shop, along with other Horizon-themed cosmetics. Along with that, Fortnite will host the Aloy Cup tomorrow, April 14, which will be exclusive to PS4 and PS5 players and offer the potential to play as Aloy a little early. Finally, the game will get a new Limited Time Mode called Team Up! Aloy & Lara, consisting of Duos matches that pair Aloy and Lara Croft equipped with their signature weapons.

Nintendo Will Host Another Indie World Showcase Tomorrow

Tomorrow, April 14 at 12 p.m. ET, Nintendo will host the next Indie World Showcase. It will be a “roughly” 20-minute presentation focused on “fresh and new indie games” planned to launch for Nintendo Switch. With its being an Indie Showcase, you shouldn’t expect major first-party announcements, though it will be chock-full of games made by smaller developers. Many are hoping for an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong, which has been in development for the past few years, but it’s unknown if it will make an appearance — it usually doesn’t.
