Ever try living in a college dorm? Yeah, it’s no good.
Here I am, sitting in my dorm at the lovely St Thomas University. Here’s the problem with this: I’m on the universities network, ergo I’m behind their freakin firewall. For all those who know, this can only mean trouble for playing games online. I can’t do it. I just can’t do it. I’ve tried everything and the only game I’ve ever gotten to work is Medal of Honor. For some reason that game runs smoothly with no problems. Everything else just gets caught up when it tries to connect to the server. I desprately tried to play Final Fantasy XI and I can get onto PlayOnline, but when I try to connect to the Final Fantasy XI lobby, it can’t do it. Of course, me being as stubborn as I am, I tried to get on a bunch of times. Just tried over and over. One time I actually got connected and I loaded my character and I was in the world running around! Then… then I took a look around and realized I was the only person in the town. I looked to the upper right hand corner. It read 16% and it was dark red. My character froze and couldn’t move. I sobbed quietly to myself. Then I type /cry and my character began to cry. But that’s all he could do… cry. Deeming it as hopeless, I logged out and gave up. I don’t know what I’m going to do.
This brings me to my second topic for tonight. Seeing as Medal Of Honor works, I was wondering if any of you know some tricks or tweaks I can do to get other games working, mainly Call of Duty because I’ve been having a hankering to do some multiplayer in that game. I talked to the tech guys here and they said they don’t close any ports. I even think he said something along the lines that they don’t do anything to the ports, they just choke the p2p ports that people mainly use. I don’t know, I could have just dreamt that conversation too. Hey, even if you don’t have any ideas, but you’re in the same situation, drop me a line. We’ll cope together.
That’s mainly just my biggest complaint tonight about dorms. The internet connection is ass and nothing works online. I just wanted to play Amplitude on my PS2 online, but that was quickly shot down back in the first semester. Oh, and 90% of my floor is drunk on a wednesday night, but I’m not complaining. Alright, that’s it for me. Hit those books and study hard. Tomorrow I get to find out what the difference is between a Human Being and a Person. God bless philosophy.
