Today we celebrate Korean American day with a small gallery of posters from some of the best Korean films to have been released in the past decade. Hop in and get comfortable for some very good moves, some of which may leave you a little uncomfortable.
Oldboy was released in 2003 and was the second part in The Vengeance Trilogy. Directed by Chan-Wook Park, this film may leave you a little shaken.
A Tale of Two Sisters also came out in 2003. This film is about a pair of twins that has to deal with cruel stepmother and an interfering ghost that is affecting their recovery. Sounds like a romantic comedy and yet it isn’t.
Voice or Whispering Corridors 4: The Voice is a part of a series of films that does not share a continuing plot or characters with one another. This could get pretty confusing.
The Red Shoes, which was released in 2005, is a modern retelling of the Hans Christian Anderson classic of the same name. Although this time around it’s all about the shoes and the fact that they can be quite a hassle to those that are not the owner.
The Epitaph is a 2007 film about a series of horrifying events that happen in a hospital in the 40s. Like ER but with a whole bunch of scary thrown in.
The Good, The Bad, The Weird is a film from 2008 that is a vague reworking of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. This film, once again, takes place in the 40s during Japanese occupation.
2008 also brought us The Chaser, which is about a dirty cop/pimp as he hunts down his missing prostitutes. Just like Citizen Kane.
The newest film on the list, Thirst, came out in 2009. It’s a great story of a priest with a thirst for blood. Sounds like they made a perverse story of transubstantiation.
