Deus Ex: Mankind Divided continues Adam Jensen’s story as he aims to expose the Illuminati’s manipulations.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution was one as wonderful a prequel as they come, telling the riveting story of an augmented society while setting up the first Deus Ex game. But as it turns out, that wasn’t the end of Adam Jensen’s story – according to the Square Enix E3 press event it’s just the beginning. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Jensen once again finds himself facing enemies with their own agenda for humanity’s future. The difference is this time he has a chance to expose the powerful Illuminati itself.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided picks up shortly after the events of Human Revolution. Many augmented individuals have suddenly found themselves second-class citizens, stripped of their rights and relegated to camps in a kind of “mechanical apartheid”. When an augmented terrorist group starts setting off bombs, Adam Jensen joins a task force responsible for bringing them to justice. But in truth, Jensen is a double agent hoping to find the individuals controlling events behind the scenes.
The E3 trailer also shows off some of Jensen’s new tricks – most notably hardened armor that covers his skin – along with his usual stealth and gunplay. Square Enix also added that Mankind Divided places a strong emphasis on choice-based gameplay, with the ending changing based on your in-game actions. All told, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided should be worth looking out for when it launches on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms in early 2016.
