8 Cool Gadgets from CES 2017

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The Consumer Electronics Show is the 21st century Worlds Fair. Companies from all over come to this expo to show off their latest and greatest innovations that they hope will win potential customers. This year’s CES was no different, showing off all sorts of new toys for the technophile in all of us.

Here are eight gadgets we’re looking forward to when they hit the market.

hubble hugo

Hubble Hugo

If you feel as though big brother is always watching you, relax, it’s just Hubble’s Hugo. The Hugo is a smart cam that follows you around a room, watching your interactions and tries to gauge your mood. If it noticed you were upset, for example, it would play soothing music to calm you down. It has smart home compatibility and works with Amazon’s Alexa to help you organize your home life with ease.

It’s really targeted towards parents of babies as a super helpful baby monitor. When the little one gets fussy because they cannot sleep, the Hugo will play it soothing music to help the little one calm down. Those with younger children will find it useful as it includes audio e-books to read to the youngsters.

Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed

Everything is becoming smart nowadays, so isn’t it about time that our bed wised up too? The Sleep Number 360 has an air conditioning unit built-in to help keep you at the perfect temperature.

Just like the other Sleep Number models, this one also includes the typical features of an adjustable mattress like settings to make it hard and soft on each side so you and your partner both sleep soundly. That along with a built-in foot warmer will really make it difficult to wake up in the morning.

Dell Ultrasharp UP3218K

Because who wants that old 4k when you can have 8k? At a crazy 7680×4320, one can really see the detail in an ultra-high resolution picture. Of course, with a $5k price tag, only photo professionals will be looking at this badboy when it’s released. Still, as a gamer, I would love to own a rig that could make full use of this monitor. It would be kind of fun to play graphic rich games in native 8k resolution.

acer-predator-21x

Acer Predator 21X

I want to have the job of the person who got to design this thing. I can only imagine they thought “How much crazy powerful hardware can we stick in a laptop?” and then they get to build it! Of course, it’s a bit of a novelty with a $9,000 price tag (queue the “It’s over 9000” jokes)

I’ll let the specs speak for this monster.

  • 21-inch screen, 21:9 aspect ratio, 2,560×1,080-pixel resolution
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • 2000R curved screen
  • Nvidia G-Sync
  • Tobii Eye Tracking
  • Two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs
  • Seventh-gen Intel Core i7-7820HK (overclockable) CPU
  • Can store up to five storage drives at a time
  • Two power supplies to run
  • Five system fans
  • Nine heat pipes to stay cool
  • HDMI port and two DisplayPorts
  • Four speakers and two subwoofers
  • Mechanical keyboard uses Cherry MX switches and has an RGB LED under every key
  • SD card reader
  • 19.4 pounds (8.8 kilograms)

    Lego Boost

Since they were created, a child’s imagination is what powered the inventions and creatures one created using LEGO pieces. LEGO has come up with a LEGO set with bricks that contain programmable little motors that work with other LEGO bricks to allow your child’s creations to finally come to life!

Just imagine the fun they’ll have when they construct that robot that actually walks and moves on its own.

    lg w7

    LG W7 series

Because LCD TV’s are just too thick, LG has created a television so thin it can’t sit on a stand and must be attached to a wall. When I say thin, I mean less than 4mm thick and the 77″ model weighs only 27lbs!

Of course, like many of the technology being showcased here, it’s expensive. Like, $10-$20k expensive. While the current prices are unannounced, they are expected to cost more than last years models which did run in that price range.

    jbl pulse 3

    JBL Pulse 3

Why have a set of bland black blutooth speakers when you can use the JBL Pulse 3? Not only are the speakers quite nice to look at, especially attractive for parties and other events, but they’re watertight enough to be in 3 feet of water for half an hour.

    razer project valerie

    Project Valerie

Razor has been making PC hardware for quite some time now and recently decided to get in the PC market with their blade series laptops. One thing that makes Razor components attractive is their slick look and style. They don’t go overboard with the design, they keep it slick and elegant while maintaining practicality.

So, what happens when you get these folks to make a bleeding edge laptop meant for the most hardcore gamer? Project Valerie is the result.

Why limit your laptop gaming experience to just one monitor when you can run three? Weighing in at a mere 12 lbs (3 monitors folks!) and packed with a 1080, your gaming experience on this bad boy will be anything but dull.
