According to the Dallas Morning News, Gamestop announced during its annual sales conference that although they are not ready to begin taking preorders for the Nintendo Wii, the company will be the only retailer to have playable kiosks.
Following last week’s announcement by Sony to have more than 15,000 demo kiosks available, the Gamestop announcement seems to corroborate an unconfirmed report from Joystiq last week that Wal-Mart will not be carrying Wii demo units for the holiday season.
Additionally, the company announced that it will not be taking preorders on the Wii or the PS3 until it has a clearer idea of how many units it will be receiving. This following wide criticism and concern over the Xbox 360 launch where Gamestop sorely overestimated launch day allocations. According to Gamestop president Steve Morgan, “I think the lesson is caution and optimism at the same time.”
The Nintendo Wii is scheduled to launch in the U.S on November 19, 2006.
