Looking toward growth in Western territories, Square Enix is sniffing around European development houses for purchase.
Looking to Europe as a market that may surpass Japan, Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto says his company is interested in creating more ‘Western’ games in the future.
“I am very interested in European development because there are a lot of very good independent studios,” said Yamamoto. “We have started having meetings with people right now, and we will keep going. Titles I’m looking at are for Europe and also the US. We are not looking to hire staff one by one, so maybe studios that have good experience would be easier to work with.”
In the mean time, Square Enix will be releasing more games in the territory. “We have many more titles that we have never released in Europe, and every producer in Square Enix is keen to release all of these titles into the European market,” he said. “We have been making titles exclusively for one format for a long time but now we have titles for all formats.”
