Nintendo Still Topping Sales Charts

This article is over 17 years old and may contain outdated information

Nintendo claimed the top two spots among best-selling new videogame systems in the U.S. again in March, despite widespread shortages.

In the first quarter of 2007, Wii has already sold over 1 million systems in America, and the Nintendo DS stands at almost 1.25 million for the same period. According to NPD sell-through information over the first five months of its availability, the Wii is the fastest-selling new console in over a decade.

So far this year, Nintendo has sold more videogame systems than all other manufacturers combined. While shipments of the Wii hardware are expected to grow based on increased production, demand remains at unprecedented levels. For the Nintendo DS, the highly anticipated releases of PokĆ©mon Diamond and PokĆ©mon Pearl on Sunday will guarantee Nintendo’s continued success in Q2 and beyond.
