Warner Brothers Interactive has announced the follow-up to Monolith’s hit FPS F.E.A.R. will be entitled Project Origin.

Project Origin is the winner of the Name Your Fear contest, which ran from June 4 to June 22 and gave fans of the game a chance to suggest new titles for the sequel. A new name was needed due to licensing conflicts between WBIE, which will be publishing the sequel, and Vivendi, which published the original F.E.A.R. and still holds the rights to the name. Monolith, which developed fear and is currently working on the sequel, split with Vivendi in 2004.

Monolith’s Troy Skinner said, “Our team really enjoyed letting the fans drive the naming process, and we are excited to expand upon the work we began in the original game and establish Project Origin as a premier gaming franchise in its own right.” While no longer using the F.E.A.R. name, Project Origin will carry on the game’s story and make use of established characters. The winning name was chosen ahead of other entries that included Thugmuffins Gangsta Throwdown, THE GIRL IN THE KETCHUP STAINED DRESS, Manbuster, Killdozer, Bloody Bunger and S.A.U.S.A.G.E.

Project Origin is under development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, but no release date has been set.
