Microsoft has announced that it has added Halo 3 to its disc replacement program in the wake of reports of scratched Halo 3 discs in the Limited Edition release.
In some copies of the Halo 3 Limited Edition packaging, the disc has been reported to have fallen off its mount, leaving it floating free inside the metal box and often leading to scratches. As a result, owners of the Halo 3 LE will be eligible to receive a replacement disc at no charge until December 31, 2007.
The standard and Legendary editions of the game, which use different packaging, do not suffer from the “floating disc” problem, and therefore do not qualify for free replacements. These versions have instead been added to Microsoft’s regular disc replacement plan, which allows gamers with defective media to order replacements from Microsoft at a cost of $20 each. In both cases, the defective original disc must be returned to Microsoft.
Halo 3 owners with defective discs should check Microsoft’s Xbox Disc Replacement Program website for further details.
