Activision has announced an upcoming Soldier of Fortune: Payback tournament, with $15,000 in cash and prizes at stake.
Held in conjunction with the GGL (Global Gaming League), the tournament will pit players against one another in both solo and team-based ladders. Practice rounds begin today, while official qualifying tournaments will begin in January 2008. The top ten finalists will receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York City in February, where they will play in a championship tournament that will be televised on Voom GamePlay HD.
Developed by Cauldron HQ and released in November, Soldier of Fortune: Payback is the third installment in the Soldier of Fortune franchise. The game was initially banned in Australia due to its violent content, but a censored version which removed NPC dismemberment and reduced the overall level of violence has since been granted an MA15+ rating. The game has received middling reviews since its release.
