Stargate Worlds, the in-development MMOG based on the hit television series, is now accepting applications for its upcoming closed beta period.
Invitations to the beta testing will be sent out beginning this spring, giving chosen gamers the chance to sample the game while providing feedback to the developers about the game experience and performance. More testers will be added over the spring and summer in order to test the game servers under increased stress load.
“A game is nothing without players,” said Dan Elggren, studio head for Stargate Worlds. “We’re fired up to finally get our game in the hands of the community. We’re at the point where we need external testers to take Stargate Worlds to the finish line. Our devoted fans have helped guide us for more than two years through our forums. Together, we’re going to craft a balanced, polished, and most of all, fun game.”
Stargate Worlds is based on the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis television series, which were themselves spin-offs of the 1994 feature film Stargate. Players will be able to pick from one of seven archetypes in the game, including Asgard, Goa’uld and Jaffa, and FPS-style combat will also figure prominently. Powered by the Unreal Engine 3 and Big World’s server technology, Stargate Worlds is currently slated for released in late 2008.
