After advertisements leaked the return of discounted classics, Sony has confirmed the revival of its Greatest Hits line for the PS3.

Following in the fiscally conservative footsteps of its forefathers, the PlayStation 3 is now offering a Greatest Hits collection of some the systems best-selling titles. Advertisements from both K-Mart and Circuit City started circulating featuring discounted PS3 games sporting the classic red bordering from the PlayStation 2 games.

Each console has had its own requirements before a game could qualify for a Greatest Hits re-release. Original PlayStation games needed a year on the shelves and 250,000 units sold. The PlayStation 2 had to have nine months in stores with over 400,000 units sold. Even Sony’s portable allowed for low-priced games, given they sold 250,000 units and lasted at least nine months on shelves. The standards for the PlayStation 3 editions are unknown.

Gamers will be getting a decent deal for these Greatest Hits games, with retail prices for each game being dropped from $59.99 to $29.99.

The first batch of budget titles features:

  • Motorstorm
  • Resistance
  • Warhawk
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Fight Night
  • Need for Speed: Carbon
  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Rainbow Six Vegas
  • Oblivion: The Elder Scrolls
  • Ninja Gaiden
