EndWar For PC Delayed By Piracy

Tom Clancy’s EndWar won’t be coming to the PC anytime soon, and Ubisoft’s Michael de Plater says rampant PC piracy is to thank.

EndWar Creative Director de Plater told VG247 there was “no reason not to” put out a PC version of the upcoming strategy title, pointing out that EndWar, although developed for consoles, has deep PC roots. “The stuff I worked on previously was Total War, which are PC games. In many ways, gameplay-wise, it’s a modern warfare, Tom Clancy version of Total War,” he said.

But don’t expect it to come anytime soon. In follow-up comments, de Plater became the latest developer to blame the declining PC market on rampant piracy. “To be honest, if PC wasn’t pirated to hell and back, there’d probably be a PC version [of EndWar] coming out the same day as the other two,” he said. “But at the moment, if you release the PC version, essentially what you’re doing is letting people have a free version that they rip off instead of a purchased version. Piracy’s basically killing PC.”

“The level of piracy that you get with the PC just cannibalizes the others, because people just steal that version,” he added.

Tom Clancy’s EndWar is set for release in early November for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP.
