Prince of Persia Gets “Epilogue” DLC

First Fallout 3, now Prince of Persia. Seems you can’t buy a real game ending for 60 bucks these days. “Epilogue,” which will continue the storyline of Prince of Persia after the end of the game, will be released on February 26.

Set directly after the events of the retail game, “Epilogue” will “develop the relationship between the Prince and Elika following the end of the game and will give additional narrative elements,” explained associate producer Jamal Rguigui to IGN. In addition to extending the plot, the DLC will add some new tricks for both the Prince and Elika, a whole new location for that dynamic duo to explore, a new enemy and possibly even a higher level of challenge for the players who found the game a bit too much of a cakewalk.

Elika gets a new power called Energize, which grants her the ability to reconstruct destroyed areas of an environment for a limited amount of time. Meanwhile, the Prince gets a new attack to use in combat called Sprinting Clash that basically does what it sounds like: triggers a dramatic sprint attack where the Prince and his opponent run at each other and clash weapons.

Speaking of enemies, there will be a new one to go along with the new area in the DLC, The Underground Palace. “The Shapeshifter is an enemy that takes the form of two of Ahriman’s most fearsome Lieutenants, the Warrior and the Hunter,” Rguigui explained. “Though their physical form is familiar to our heroes and the player, it will requires a particular strategy to defeat the Shapeshifter, rewarding the player that takes advantage of the new sprint feature exclusive to the Epilogue.”

One of the main criticisms of Prince of Persia was that it was too easy, that the acrobatics and combat just felt like glorified quick-time events. Ubisoft isn’t totally unaware of these complaints, and seems to be trying to address them with this DLC. “What hardcore Prince of Persia gamers want is a challenge and some of them found the game too easy,” Rguigui said. “We understand this. Seeing such feedback, our vision and intentions with the DLC coincided with their comments quite well.”

“Epilogue” is scheduled for release on February 26. Ubisoft didn’t reveal any pricing plans, but this sounds like a pretty hefty update, so expect to spend a week’s allowance of Spacebucks for it.
