Sure, Bioware technically announced the class a week ago with their new developer diary – but now we actually have information about Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s Bounty Hunter class.
Personally, I never understood why Boba Fett was so popular. I mean, sure, the guy has an awesome theme song, but he’s always been kind of boring to me. Still, though I might not get the appeal myself, it’s hard to deny that there are plenty of people who have always wanted to put on some Mandalorian armor and hunt people for a living – disintegrations optional.
For those people, Bioware has added the Bounty Hunter – along with some eye-candy screens – to the game’s official website. Interestingly enough, it appears that the Bounty Hunter’s storyline will be closely tied into that of the Sith Empire:
Countless enemies stand in the way of the Sith Empire’s drive for domination. The Empire spares no expense eliminating these threats, offering massive bounties to employ the galaxy’s most lethal hunters. Earning a death mark from the Empire means a life spent in fear, constantly looking over one’s shoulder. It’s never a question if a Bounty Hunter will find you… only when.
I guess the Republic is too goody-two-shoes – what with its squeaky-clean Jedi – to bother getting its hands dirty with a gun-for-hire? Or perhaps individual bounty hunters will be able to change their own storyline? I’m still kind of dicey on how exactly Bioware is intending to make a story-driven MMO, honestly: How do you feel special and unique as a Bounty Hunter who has defected to the Republic, if twenty thousand others have done the same thing?
Me, I’m holding out for the Protocol Droid class.
