Level 5 has confirmed that the second Professor Layton game is coming to the states – and series creator Akihiro Hino wants all the other games to follow.
At the Game Developers’ Conference 2009, Level 5, the developers of the quirky-and-awesome Professor Layton and the Curious Village told MCV UK that the first sequel is currently being localized for release in the West.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village, in case you weren’t familiar with the game, was a Nintendo DS puzzle-adventure game – literally. Beyond the general mystery of the titular curious village of St. Mystere, the intrepid Professor and his young sidekick Luke had to solve puzzles to make their way around town, from standard “chicken, dog, and boat” puzzles to sliding blocks (curse you, sliding blocks!) to riddles and the like. It was also really, really, good.
The sequel, titled Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, is the second in a trilogy of games – beyond that, though, there will be a second trilogy as well as a movie. Diabolical Box will be released in the West “within six months,” but hopefully we’ll get the others soon enough as well – Akihiro Hino, the man who created the series (and penned the movie), wants to see all six titles released in the West.
