Germany Rates Guitar Hero: Van Halen

A German ratings board has posted a listing for Guitar Hero: Van Halen, seemingly confirming the long rumored existence of the title.

Take a deep breath. No, not for the news that the existence of Guitar Hero: Van Halen has been basically confirmed, but for the name of the party that confirmed it. Thanks to the German Voluntary Monitoring Organization of Entertainment Software, the rumors about Guitar Hero: Van Halen have gained some genuine credence.

The listing, which went up this weekend but was later removed, was spotted and screencapped by the ratings board watchdogs over at 1UP. Specifically, the listing doesn’t refer to Guitar Hero: Van Halen, but rather is filed under “Guitar Hero headlining Van Halen.” Your guess is as good as mine on that one. Listings were posted for a Xbox 360 and PS3 version, with the genre listed as “Arcade.” As for a Wii entry, it was nowhere to be found.

The disappearance of the listing would suggest that someone wants to keep this information under wraps, which lends it some air of legitimacy. So, Guitar Hero: Van Halen is probably coming. The question, then: do you want it? I like Van Halen some, but even for stupid music to rock out to “ironically,” I just don’t see it really working that well. I mean, Rock Band has The Beatles this year. Shouldn’t Activision have tried to get Guitar Hero: The Rolling Stones?

And, just as a side note, here’s the name of the ratings board in the original German: Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle. Makes me glad I took French in high school.
