In the wake of Assassin’s Creed II Discovery, Ubisoft is preparing another round of murder for fans – Assassin’s Creed II Multiplayer for the iPhone.
While Discovery was more a side-scrolling action game, Multiplayer appears to be more of a top-down action game as you run around Renaissance Italy in a game of cat-and-mouse with other player-controlled assassins. The goal? Shank someone, blend in, get away before the other players or the local guard can find you.
While it is clear the game will rely on the traditional Assassin’s Creed style of killing, early screenshots make it difficult to judge how it will actually play. Ubisoft has stated six different weapons will be available to players, and the ability to blend in with a crowd and use buildings and other objects as cover will be integral to executing the perfect assassination. The game itself is visually simple, the graphic style is much reminiscent of an older real-time strategy game
In addition to the meager tidbits of gameplay, Ubisoft has also announced that Multiplayer will have a notoriety system that ties in to a global ranking, as well as 24 achievements you can post up on Facebook in case there was any doubt in the minds of your extended social circle that you revel in killing people over an iPhone videogame.
Assassin’s Creed II Multiplayer has no confirmed release date, but Ubisoft has said the game will only be for the iPhone, unlike Discovery which saw both an iPhone and DS release. The mechanics, however, might end up resurfacing in other Assassin’s Creed games yet to come.
