Logan Lerman, the star of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, said that he’s in talks to play the title role in the Spiderman reboot.

Even though his biggest starring role has yet to be seen by audiences (Percy comes out next week), the 18-year-old Lerman said that he is being considered by Sony to play Peter Parker. The young actor has actually been in a lot, including the TV show Jack and Bobby and bit parts in 3:10 to Yuma and that Ashton Kutcher movie about butterflies or something. Lerman acknowledges that landing the Spiderman role is a long process and that nothing is set in stone. The fact that Sony reps have claimed that they want to focus on the character of Peter Parker as a younger man than in Raimi’s films seems to point to Lerman being a front-runner for the role.

“There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into,” Lerman said.

“It’s one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series,” he said. “I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it.”

Lerman explained that he believes the interest in him playing Pater Parker to be mutual, but wouldn’t admit to which side contacted the other first.

“It’s just, you know, conversations are starting. It’s a long process with the studio and the producers and everything. But it’s definitely a project that I’m really interested in, of course,” he said. “I’d love to focus on the human element a little bit more. It’d be such a fun experience.”

The young actor appears to have covered all of his bases with this interview. He’s a fan of the character, he’s not assuming that the role is his but he’s publicly stating his interest. If nothing else, he has learned how to play the game. I’m sure he’d be great as a Spiderman.

Now, if only Sony can convince audiences that they need to pay 15 bucks for a movie they just saw a few years ago by a far more skilled director.

Oooh, I know, let’s make 3D!
