Hopping from one Marvel property to another, Kick Ass director Matthew Vaughn is to direct the upcoming X-Men spin-off movie, First Class.
Matthew Vaughn, director of “realistic” superhero movie Kick Ass has been confirmed as the director of the next movie in the X-Men series, X-Men: First Class, which is scheduled for release June 3rd 2011 and will be the third Marvel movie coming in summer next year.
As good as the X-Men movies were – the first two anyway – they featured the X-Men mostly as adults, confident in their powers and already a close-knit team. X-Men: First Class goes and fills in the blanks, charting the early years of the Xavier Institute, and focuses on a young Jean Grey and Scott Summers, and is generally more in tune with the early X-Men comics
Having recently seen Kick Ass, Vaughn seems like a good choice. Making young superheroes seem real is no small feat, so getting someone who has already done it is a pretty good idea and it will be interesting to see what happens when he gets his hands on actual superpowers.
