These geek and gamer girls know that Han shot first.
I’m not a huge Katy Perry fan, but the past few months have proven that the pop star is a popular choice when it comes to satirical videos celebrating geek culture. Back in July, the Damsels of Dorkington put out that parody of “I Kissed a Girl,” and now Team Unicorn has released a similar video based on Perry’s latest hit, “California Gurls.”
This video, “Geek and Gamer Girls” is certainly cute and features some great nerd references, including appearances by Robot Chicken DVDs, Walking Dead comics, and a chorus line about how the singers know that “Han shot first.” The girls also dress up as Psylocke (from the X-Men), Lara Croft, Baroness (from G.I. Joe), and Han Solo.
There are also some relatively high production values, as well as some fairly epic celebrity cameos. Aside from Seth Green’s rapping, there also brief appearances by Katee Sackhoff (better known as Kara Thrace on Battlestar Galactica) and comic legend Stan Lee.
While the song and its video are certainly entertaining, Katy Perry satires are starting to get a little played out. What would actually be really cool to see is a group like Team Unicorn put together a video as fun as this, but with some original music.
