Xbox Live Indies Rise Up to Prove They Don’t Suck

There may be a lot of junk on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace, but a smattering of developers want to prove they can create great content too.

The games found on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace are a unique bunch. Some are of super high quality for their $1-$5 price tags, while others will make you wish that you’d used that money for a pack of Life Savers. A section of the hardcore Xbox Live Indie Games development community understands that it can be hard to determine what’s a jewel and what’s just plain crap, and has joined together to show everyone how good a $1 game can be.

In the Indie Games Winter Uprising, around a dozen indie developers have set out to improve the image of Xbox Live Indie Games. While some of the current offerings on the marketplace pretend to teach you how to talk to girls, and others help you to control your farts, these developers want to show that there are real games available on the service too.

The Winter Uprising will bring both sequels and brand new titles. In the first week of December, 14 games will be released on XBLIG in multiple genres with a cost range from 80 to 400 Microsoft Points. They will include Soulcaster 2, a sequel to the original Gauntlet/tower defense game, Cthulhu Saves the World, a new retro RPG from Zeboyd games of Breath of Death VII fame, Epic Dungeon, a classic roguelike, ZP2KX: Zombies & Pterodactyls!, a new game from the developer of I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1 and The Dishwasher, and more.

The full list can be found here. If wading through the games about flatulence on XBLIG is getting you down, try taking a look at what’s coming in the Winter Uprising to guide your way instead. A few dollars really can go a long way if you make the right choices.
